Summer Horsemanship Program

Age 6-16

 Full day program 8am-3pm $400/week($100 daily rate),

Half day program 8am-12pm $240/week ($60 daily rate)

      In the full day program each student will get approximately 1 hour riding time per day with a riding instructor some days they may ride for longer.  For the half day program, students ride for 30 minutes per day.  .  Students are not required to have any experience.  The remainder of the time will be spent on educational projects, learning about horse care, horsemanship and crafts.  It will cover grooming, leading, mounting a horse, steering, stopping and riding at the walk and trot.  Advanced riders will do work at the canter as well work building a partnership with their horse.  On Thursdays students will participate in a “game day” on horseback.  In addition to horse projects there may be an opportunity to learn and have hands on experience with other farm animals in the afternoon for full day students.  You may sign up for multiple weeks as curriculum will be different each week. Flex drop off time is available. Session 1 will be combined with Barn Buddies and Session 2 and 3 will be combined with Art and Horses for afternoon program.

 

Art and Horses 

Ages 5-16

Horse have be a focus of art throughout history.  Today horses are a popular in art because of their strength, beauty and grace.  Learn using a couple of different art mediums to draw and create pieces of horse related art.  Use real life horse models and get hands on horse experiences.  Students will also get grooming, petting time of the horses and a short horseback riding lesson if they would like (15 minutes).  Students that are staying from the morning camp are welcome to stay for a supervised ½ hour lunch included at no additional charge (they must bring their own bag lunch).  Open to ages 5 and up.  Program runs Monday-Thursday   Total cost $165/week

 

 

 

 

Spanish Immersion in Horses at Achorn Acres with Sra. Feder

Many horses in the United States have influences from Spanish horse breeds.  Join us as we explore Spanish cultures and immerse in the language while gaining hands on experience with horses.  Students will be taught greetings, weather, colors, numbers, verbs, movement, games and equine specific vocabulary in the Spanish language.  Students will practice speaking Spanish with teachers and other students as well as learn to ride a horse.  The week will culminate in an extended day on Thursday, where students will perform their language in a puppet horse show.  This program is ideal for students looking to practice their Spanish language in a fun environment.  No prior knowledge or Spanish speaking experience needed.   Long pants and boots with a heel are required. 

Total cost $225/week    Age 5-12

 

 

Barn Buddies 12:30-2:30

We are happy to announce that we will be offering a Barn Buddies farm program again this summer. During this program children will get hands on experience with farm animals. In addition to learning about horses, children will get hands on experience with goats, ducks and chickens. Additional farm animals may be added as well.  Each day children will have an opportunity to have an option horse/pony ride.  We will talk about fibers from animals and how we use it to make clothes as well as learning about growing food for people and animals. This program is open to children age 4-12.  Students that are staying from the morning horse camp are welcome to stay for a supervised ½ hour lunch included at no additional charge (they must bring their own bag lunch).

April Vacation Horse Camp

Ages 5-16

9am-3pm Monday and Tuesday     April 16th, and17th (rain date April 18th)

Students will ride for 1 hour per day. Please dress for the weather as April weather can be unpredictable.   Students are not required to have any experience.   Students will be doing educational projects, doing horse care, horsemanship and crafts.  It will cover grooming, leading, mounting a horse, steering, stopping and riding at the walk and trot. On Tuesday afternoon students will participate in a “game day” on horseback.  Students must wear long pants and boots with a heel.  They may bring a helmet with them if they have one.  Loaner helmets will be available for students that do not have their own.  Students will not be allowed to ride in sneakers.  Students are to bring a water bottle and a snack and a bag lunch that does not contain nuts.

Total cost $200/week

Pony Pals ages 3-6

The pony pals program is the first riding program in the area specifically tailored for preschoolers and kindergarten aged children.  Students will learn grooming by brushing our miniature horse Sneakers. They will then get to ride a horse or pony while attached to a lead line. Children will do balancing exercises on horseback. They will learn to steer and stop a horse.  Children will finish the day with a horse related project, craft or story time.   This program is great introduction to horses and gets children comfortable and confident around horses.   Students must wear long pants and boots with a heel.  They may bring a helmet with them if they have one.  Loaner helmets will be available for students who do not have their own.   Space is limited in highlighted program. Additional Monday dates may be available through Westborough Recreation

Junior Saddle Club ages 6-10

The Saddle club program is a great opportunity for children that want to learn more about horses than just riding.  Junior saddle club is designed for activities geared to Elementary age students, grades 1-4.   Students get hands on experience working with horses as well as learn to ride with their peers.  Program includes hands on education program, learning to brush and tack up horses, leading horses, feeding and horse care.  Students ride for approximately 30 minutes. This program is a great introduction for the beginner rider or a great supplement to private lessons for the more advanced rider.  Students must wear long pants and boots with a heel.  They may bring a helmet with them if they have one.  Loaner helmets will be available for students that do not have their own.  Students will not allowed to ride in sneakers.  If a child is sick or on vacation, 1 make up day is available but must be made up on the rain date.
